This area was a bit easier on the paws than the last. The clinging mud had been replaced with stable, dependable dirt, and for that she was thankful. She appreciated the lack of fog, too, especially since it looked like the forest was giving way to stone. It was likely the mountainous region she'd spotted on the horizon a day or so ago, and foggy mountains were a nightmare.
The visit to the clan in the wetlands hadn't gone as well as she would have hoped. Her first encounter with one of the members had been entirely hostile, but the prickly tom had been kind enough to point her in the right direction of the other clan. Oh well, it couldn't really be helped. Some cats were just born that way. But perhaps someday he'd come around, at least she hoped.
Now this other Clan was far more welcoming to outsiders, Wanderer had been told. So far nothing had tried to stop her, be it wind or rain, from making her way to the corner where the two clan territories met, so surely this must have been a good decision.
"Wouldn't it be something to meet the cat the little thornbush mentioned," she mused, gaze lifted to the treetops as she followed along the border. "What was that name? Flamescar?"
No, no, that wasn't right. "Maybe it was Firescorn? Or perhaps Flarestorm?"
Sufficiently distracted by her thoughts, the tabby she-cat didn't notice the sparrow until it darted into the air with a frightened call of warning. Wanderer halted and watched in fascination as the bird fluttered away toward the area up ahead where the scent markers mingled together.
"A sign, no doubt," she decided as she set off again at a faster pace. "This is where I need to go."
Wanderer reached the borders at record speed, nearly bouncing right over the border from excitement. At last, she'd have some company that didn't want to claw her ears off!
