patroling in the rain {aero}

it was a gloomy day, with a smattering of clouds crossing the grey-blue sky. earlier, it had drizzled, and the dawn patrol had come crashing back into the den rather unhappily, waking several of their clanmates up. roseblush had woken for a moment before rolling over and continuing to sleep, this time sprawled on her back. she'd been assigned the sun-high patrol, but at this rate, it'd be a cloud-high patrol instead.

eventually, she got out of bed, indulged in a small frog, and then sat watching her clanmates in the damp comfort of camp. a patched gray she-cat scurried about, attending to the elders and harshly avoiding the other apprentices. roseblush purred in amusement, her soft-colored blue eyes sparkling as she rose to her feet. ivypaw, the apprentice that was running about crazily, was also assigned to their patrol, but roseblush felt the need to speak with pinewhisker about excusing the poor girl.

and so she set out to find him, and she did, just across the clearing. "pinewhisker, i'm on your patrol." she mewed evenly, her creamy maw capturing a smile as she looked to her clanmate warmly. glancing over her should, she gestured toward ivypaw. "looks like dreamstar has the poor girl running wild. maybe..." her voice went low. "maybe we could 'forget' to remind her to come patrol?" the she-cat looked a little sheepish, but she shrugged. "i just think she needs a break. besides, i think two is good for a patrol on a day like this!"

What was it they called it, monsoon season? A storm had overtaken the previous sunny day, showering the fen in a light drizzle during the early hours. But that had seemed to be just the beginning; as the hidden sun rolled ever higher more rain was bound to fall. Surely the cloud cover would thicken, and Tempestclan's boggy territory would become pooled and mud ridden if it weren't already. Pinewhisker, an average sized tomcat was laying near a young sedge, tucking into a generous shrew he'd retrieved from the fresh-kill pile. It was a moment of peacefulness, something that he got infrequently these days. After being appointed deputy, someone was always approaching him for one thing or another. The young tom didn't quite mind - he was friendly and enjoyed being able to solve his clan mates' problems. Nothing pleased him more than making himself useful, but tom cherished moments like these that he could just relax. Finishing up his plump meal, Pinewhisker swiped a pink tongue around his maw, relishing any scraps leftover. Prey was running well, maybe in a little while he could pick out something else small -

His yellow green eyes shifted to observe a pretty she-cat making her way towards him. Roseblush, a flame-point that seemed pleasant enough. "pinewhisker, i'm on your patrol." how could he forget! It was only a momentary widening of his eyes that gave away his surprise. "Yes of course," He replied quickly, offering a friendly smile as an apology. He followed her gesture, and saw a young apprentice running about. He looked back to her curiously. "looks like dreamstar has the poor girl running wild. maybe..." He patiently waited for her to finish, tail tip flicking in interest. "maybe we could 'forget' to remind her to come patrol?" It was a clever idea, and Pinewhisker was impressed Roseblush had noticed this...and a little guilty he hadn't. "i just think she needs a break. besides, i think two is good for a patrol on a day like this!" The day did promise rain, and it seemed unlikely Vertigoclan would stir up any trouble. Things had been quiet, almost peaceful. Even reports of foxes and other natural enemies had been almost non-existent. "Alright," The young Abyssinian nodded, looking from the busy Ivypaw to the she-cat in front of him. "I doubt she would be too disappointed. Do you want to begin now? It's a little early, but maybe we can beat some of the rain."

roseblush nodded hard, "yes, i think that's a good idea." the stocky she-cat replied, turning her gaze toward the camp entrance. "the rain won't be for a little while yet; maybe we can make it back without getting soaked entirely!" she said optimistically, her grey-blue gaze looking high up into the cloudy sky, jumping as a distant clap of thunder struck. the ground shook in small vibrations, and the she-cat looked mildly uncomfortable. storms were awful, but at least she wasn't going to face it alone! with a nervous look on her face, she bounded over to the exit to camp, throwing a look over her shoulder to ensure pinewhisker was following.
