The sun had barely peaked the horizon when Firepaw's brother Rustlepaw rolled over on top of her in the apprentices den. Rudely she was awakened to find Rustlepaw snoring away. She glared at him and pushed her way up from her now smashed nest. She would be pouncing on him later for that. When she pushed her way out of the den, her excitement replaced her irritation at the idea of her training with her mentor, Flamingstar.
She was so excited when Flamingstar decided to take Firepaw on as her apprentice. The orange and white tabby bragged to her siblings so much so that Rustlepaw was the one to tell her to knock it off. Of course, Rustlepaw got Jetfang and he was excited and Shadedpaw got Hollybreeze, but Firepaw was the one that got the leader. Shadedpaw congratulated her like an adult, naturally. Firepaw was sometimes aggravated the way Shadedpaw acted older than her and Rustlepaw. But then, her brother, acted smaller and more weak than both of them combined. Firepaw would finally get to stand out against her siblings, maybe she'd catch a bunch of prey this morning just to tell them that their meals were provided by her. The fresh kill pile was so low from the night before.
She breathed in her sisters scent and realized she must have gone out on an early patrol with Hollybreeze and Firepaw's ear flicked with irritation. How early did they leave? Why wasn't I allowed to go with them? But she assumed Flamingstar would want Firepaw to do something far more important today.
Firepaw waited for Flamingstar to appear for her session this morning. Instead, the she-cat started practicing her pouncing. She put all of her weight in her front paws and left none in her back paws. From any other cat's perspective, you could tell how lopsided she was. Safe to say, Firepaw looked ridiculous.
