What a mouth full ~~Open~~

As the brown tabby came into came his jaws were full of herbs and berries. A stick full of jupiter berries stuck out of his maw, along with a few marigold petals and some water mint. Wrapped around both forepaws was cob webs. His green eyes were bright and happy at his collection today. His main goal was cob webs due to supplies being low, but he found a ripe jupiter bush and a few stems of water mint. He only took what he needes due to not wanting the supplies to completely be out. 


On his way back to camp Runningspirit found a patch of marigolds and remembering hos were drying out he had to go get more. So he paused and collected some petals.

jetfang slipped out of the nursery, being very careful not to wake his sleeping family. though it was almost midday, lilythorn had been awake since before dawn because of the kits and they'd only just now settled down and been persuaded to nap, so jet figured she needed the rest. he, however, had only risen with the sun and he was feeling energetic and wide-awake, so he decided to look for something productive to do. before he could consider where he should hunt and if he should ask anyone along, he observed the tabby medicine cat entering camp weighed down with medicinal supplies and, almost comically, sporting paws wrapped in cobweb. 

jetfang hurried to his side and picked up some watermint stems in his jaws that had been about to be dropped by the healer, following a warm meow of, "let me help you with that." the stems had a weird taste to them, and when he finally set them down on the medicine cat's den floor, he had to swallow a few times to rid himself of the tang. "yuck! what was that?"

As the tabby tom was about to head to his den he saw the black and white tom Jetfang coming his way. He nodded his head gratefully at the offer of help. When they make it back to his den, he gently set the herbs down. His glaze shifted to the other tom, "Thank you, Jetfang. That was watermint. Hope you don't get a bellyache, cause that is one of the treatments, but I will remember to give you jupiter berries instead," Runningspirit chuckled. "They taste better."


He began to sort out his herbs and unwind the cobwebs from his front paws. "I went a checked in on the queens this morning to deliver boage. They all seem to be doing well. The kits were very healthy."

jetfang figured he'd had watermint before, considering his length of time in the clan, but he guessed he'd never had the chance to complain about the taste. arcticlight, the pretty white medicine cat who had gone missing when the old territory was flooded, would have likely scolded him for his remarks, if he had. "it must be hard to remember all of this stuff," he meowed, thinking that he could barely remember where his four legs were nowadays, let alone what kind of leaf to give a cat that was giving birth. he had seen the medicine cat born, around the time that he had been given his warrior name. he figured that meant that he was getting old; after all, the same was true of flamingstar and heatherjaw; he had been a warrior or near to one when the two were born.

jetfang pondered his age a bit more, but something more pressing tugged at him. "you don't think pallidkit is too small, do you?" he asked, though he was obviously relieved by the medicine cat's assessment that his sons were healthy. it was an oddity, having all male kits in the nursery at one time. jetfang knew that his mate had hoped for a daughter, but perhaps with a bit of luck they would have daughters in their next litter.

Runningspirit chuckled lightly, "No, it is not for me. Yet, again I was born to be a Medicine Cat and Starclan has led me well with Articlight.  She was a wonderful cat and wonderful medicine cat." He spoke with a soft smile. He felt a pang of sorrow for his lost mentor. He missed her snappy attitude, but she never led him astray.


Runningspirit rest his tail on Jetfang's side. "Ever litter has a runt. They will grow and be larger. He shows no sign of sickness, weakness, or injury." He smiled as he began to slowly put his cobweb in the corner. "So do not worry about Pallidkit."

jetfang smiled gently at the medicine cat and meowed, "i was sorry to hear that she was lost in the floods. she was a friend." his mismatched eyes flicked over the den, wondering what would be different if arcticlight were still medicine cat. perhaps less organized; the white she-cat had always been rather scatter-brained, but cheerful nonetheless. "are you planning to take an apprentice anytime soon? i had half-wondered if any of my sons might show an interest." he sat down as the tabby tom rested his tail on his side. there was just something about medicine cats: they had that ability to calm you down. "lilythorn's mom was a medicine cat, so i thought perhaps one of her sons might show the knack."

there goes another cat telling me not to worry, the black and white tom thought to himself, thinking that lilythorn would have been amused to know he was still worrying about their sons. "i worry more than a queen," he mewed, whiskers twitching in embarrassment. eager to change the subject he asked, "do you need any more herbs? looks like you've got enough to last all of leafbare and then some."

Runningspirit eyes filled with sorrow, before disappearing. "Yes, I was too. She was a great friend and mentor. I miss her greatly, but she is with Starclan guiding us as always," he mewed. Then, he tilted his head, "Yes, I am keeping my eyes out for a new apprentice,  but they have to want it too. I can not simple go up to a kit and say I choose you and focus them into this. They would never be happy and if you are not happy, then you cannot succeed. " Runningspirit spoke calmly, "I can see the kits going both ways, warrior and medicine cat, but its up to them. They must decide their fates," Runningspirit mewed.


Runningspirit purred, "Just means you are a good father. So many fathers turn their backs on their kits or are barely there." Then, he looked at his herbs. "As of now I am good, but these would not last me a moon in leaf-bare.  I just don't want to collect more then necessary til leaf-fall." Runningspirit said as he stuck her jupiter berries in a crack.

jetfang nodded. he had never really understood how the process of medicine cats being chosen and trained and whatnot really worked, but he trusted runningspirit to know. it just didn't seem to him like kits would really want to be healers often enough; the life of a warrior held so much more glory. and he couldn't imagine not being allowed to have a mate or kits; those were the things that had become most important in his life. lilythorn, his kits, and duty to his clan. nothing else mattered, really. he had never hungered for power, leadership, or any special connection to starclan. jetfang was content. 

"well, maybe one will approach you then," the black patched tom meowed thoughtfully. after all, the toms were only three moons old yet. he watched runningspirit organize his herbs, including a bunch of berries. he glanced at the medicine cat, then anxiously at the den entrance, wondering if he should leave. jetfang looked down at his paws and scuffed at the den ground. "so uh..." he mewed, feeling awkward as he prepared to ask the medicine cat his question. "do you think that uh, lilythorn and i will be able to have another litter?" he grinned at runningspirit as his fur burned.

Runningspirit smiled gently at, "Maybe they will. I look forward to the day I can train the clans next Medicine Cat." It was an exciting idea, but at the same time he liked being the clans main medicine cat. Yet at the same time there was much to do and he was no entirely young anymore. 


Runningspirit smiled brightly at the tom. He seemed slightly uncomfortable.  He sat down and stopped his sorting. He wrapped his tabby tail around his paws. "Seeing as either of you are close to you elder years, you will be able to have at least one more maybe even two."

jetfang had to admit he was a little awed by the medicine cat's relaxed nature. he himself was anything but relaxed, the majority of the time. even so, he still felt the glowing heat of embarrassment at his question, and he swore his fur was on fire. "oh... that's wonderful!" he meowed,  wondering if his mate with her wry smile would agree. she had to spend far more time with their three rowdy, energetic bundles of joy. but he knew that both he and his mate loved them more than they could ever understand. those kits were like a symbol of a new beginning for he and the former-deputy. a chance at a normal life, one not filled with peril and drama and loss. 

"i know they can be a pawful, but kits really are so wonderful. and lilythorn was hoping for a daughter." he grinned at the thought. "give us enough time, and you'll have an apprentice yet."
